Policies and Procedures
Payment
Payment is due the first lesson of each month. This can be paid by post-dated checks, cash, MasterCard or Visa. An e-mail or a note in your child's notebook will be sent home the week before payment is due as a friendly reminder.
Late Payment Fee: If you are late on the payment, there will be a late fee of $5/day until payment is received.
Cancellation Fee: If you decide to leave the studio at any time throughout the season, a one month fee will be charged (4 lessons).
Home Practice Time
Lessons are great but the time your child's spends practicing at home is very important. My suggestion is to have them practice at the same time every day. Kids ages 8 and under should a minimum of 10 minutes a day. Ages 9-15 should be a minimum of 15 minutes a day and those 16 and up should be a minimum of 20 minutes.
Kids are very busy but if you make this their time to be with you, it becomes something they look forward to every day. Make it a game for the young ones using the "Shhhh....Your Teacher Thinks This Is Practice" book, they will have lots of fun discovering new things about their music.
Have mini recitals when grandparents come to visit or friends drop by. This encourages your child to be ready and to help them with the butterflies that can happen when performing in front of an audience.
Studio Lesson Times
The lesson time is all about your child. It has been set aside so I can focus on them and if you show up late or without your music books, it takes away from their lesson. Please be a few minutes early and come in quietly as I will be finishing up with another student. Make sure all their books are with them and please be on time to pick your child up.
Parents are welcomed to drop in to the studio anytime to sit in on a lesson. I do ask that you sit quietly for the lesson. If you want to talk after your child's lesson, please let me know before the lesson begins so I can end your child's lesson a little early so it does not encroach upon the next students time slot.
Missed Lessons
Missed lessons are not made up if you cancel. For those who live outside Devon and are traveling, I will do my best to have make up lessons when and where I can. Please let me know if your child will not be coming to their lesson as soon as possible. I will not be answering my phone during studio time but will check messages as time allows.
If I cancel a lesson, you will be reimbursed for that lesson. I will also do my best to give you as much notice of the canceled lesson as possible.
Tax Receipts
For those with children under the age of 16, you can submit a tax receipt for the Art Tax. You must be registered in a program for 8 consecutive weeks before a receipt can be issued. I will hand these out every February or early March for tax season. Please be sure your mailing address is correct with me if you have left the studio, as I will then mail them out.
