About Me!
Hello! My name is Shanna and I love music! I was only four years old when I informed my parents I wanted voice and piano lessons and lucky for me, I got both. I worked hard for my teachers and soaked up what they taught like a sponge. During my high school years, I joined the school choir which included a jazz choir, concert choir and honor choir. I also performed in our church choir and sang in community choirs. My whole world was music and I learned so much during that time. Through our school choirs, we were able to do tours, have professionals come in to do workshops and to be paid to perform at different venues. We even made recordings and sold them as fundraisers for our tours!
At sixteen, I had a family ask if I would be willing to teach their four children and that began my love of teaching. I was hired to sub at a music studio in Red Deer as both a piano and vocal teacher. There I learned what it took to run a studio and how to structure lessons for all age groups. My path was set and I was excited to begin my own studio.
When I married and moved to Edmonton, I knew it was time to spread my wings and fly. With encouragement from my co-workers at the studio in Red Deer I opened Shanna's House of Music in the fall of 1995 and the rest as they say, is history.
In 2003, we moved to Devon and continued to grow my studio where I teach piano and vocal technique. I have directed many different choirs over the past twenty years. Some were family groups, others young men or young women or a mix of both as well as a children's choir. For seven years, I volunteered at a local school here in Devon and ran a choir for those in grades 3-6. In Sept, 2013, I was approached and asked to run a glee club for kids aged 12-18. We performed throughout the community and were asked twice to perform the national anthems at Rexall for two Nation Lacrosse games. We performed both the Canadian and US anthems to over 8000 spectators!
My love of music is something I try to instill in those I teach. I find what they are passionate about and build upon that foundation. My lessons are tailored to each child as no one child learns the same as another. Lessons are fun yet still allow me to teach the FUNdamentals of music in a way where the child is excited to practice and learn. I look forward to getting to know your child as they explore the exciting world of music!
Not only do I teach children, I also teach adults who always wanted to learn. Please feel free to talk to me about your own musical interests!
