Here is my music studio...
Shanna’s House of Music has been providing quality musical education in Devon since 2003. Owned and operated by Shanna White, my goal is to make learning music fun and accessible for students of all ages.
The decision to learn to play the piano or to learn proper vocal technique is a great investment. Because playing the piano involves both sides of your brain, you can increase your intelligence and acuity. You can also develop better, faster decision-making skills and musicianship. Proper vocal technique can help children with breathing issues or speech and language development as well. They will learn how to shape their words and gain confidence. Students develop a strong work ethic by working towards short and long term goals. Gaining self esteem and self worth is something that will stay with your child the rest of their lives.
I offer a wide range of piano and vocal programs that are tailored to your child's learning needs. Whether you are introducing your child to the joys of music for the first time or just need a refresher course, I can design the right program for you.
This studio has an open door policy that encourages parents to drop in and sit in on lessons their child is taking. This allows you, the parent, to hear what is being said in studio and then encourage that learning at home. I do ask that younger siblings not be brought for these drop in times.
Lesson times are set aside for each student so please be sure your child is on time for their lesson and picked up from their lesson on time too. As my time with each student happens only once per week, home study time is very important. Parents, plan to set aside some time to help your child with their practice. Listen to them as they practice and offer encouragement and praise when they accomplish a piece. Turn practice time into mock recitals or even ask your child to teach you how to play a song or ask questions on why they are using a specific voice technique. It gets them excited and grows their confidence. Do not expect a child who is learning to be able to do it on their own. They really do need you, as the parent, to sit with them and give them some of your time and attention.
Please ensure that your child comes to their lesson with all their material they will need. I sometimes print extra sheet music off the computer and don't always keep an extra copy in the studio. The night before, have them pack their music bag so it is ready to go. Also ensure that their theory homework that was assigned for that week is completed. This should always be done within two to three days of the lesson as then what they learned is still fresh in their minds and will also help with their studies.
